The 2025 report highlights that phishing attacks, a predominant vector for cybercrime, have escalated from a high-risk to a Critical risk classification. Asia’s prominent financial and technological centers, notably Hong Kong and Singapore, have emerged as key targets for sophisticated, AI-enabled, multi-channel phishing campaigns. These advanced attacks employ increasingly complex tactics that challenge conventional detection systems and user awareness.

• Advanced AI-Driven Phishing: Cyber adversaries utilize artificial intelligence to generate highly localized, industry-specific phishing emails that mirror cultural nuances and business contexts, significantly reducing detection efficacy.
• Hybrid Attack Modalities: The integration of AI-generated voice calls (“vishing”) alongside email phishing amplifies the credibility and success rate of such scams.
• Exploitation of Trusted Digital Platforms: Attackers increasingly manipulate legitimate regional cloud services and e-government systems—such as Singpass and the Faster Payment System—to circumvent security mechanisms.
• Increasing “Quishing” Incidents: Phishing via QR codes has surged, with malicious actors obscuring fraudulent URLs behind trusted domains and URL shorteners, directing victims to deceptive authentication portals.
• Primary Spoofing Targets: Leading financial institutions including HSBC and DBS, as well as logistics firms like SF Express, continue to be the top impersonation targets.
• Escalating Threat Landscape: The GRETI risk index emphasizes heightened vigilance and the urgent adoption of adaptive cybersecurity measures to counter these evolving threats.
